4 Classic Vodka Cocktails
The Pornstar Martini was just awarded the UK’s favorite cocktail, and vodka cocktails are among the most popular in the world. The flexible spirit, however, is the secret to the success of vodka cocktails.
Vodka is a grain alcohol with a neutral flavor that is often manufactured from wheat or rye. However, it may be made from various starchy ingredients like as potatoes or cereals. It is supposed to have originated in Poland, Russia, and Scandinavia at different eras, with the name derived from the Russian word voda, which meaning “water.” The neutrality of the spirit is what makes it so adaptive.
One such adaptable brand is Emperor Vodka. Emperor vodka is handcrafted at one of Europe’s oldest distilleries that has been making vodka since 1658. It is distilled five times in copper pot stills.
Emperor’s collection contains a conventional vodka as well as numerous flavored vodkas such as chocolate, passion fruit, mojito, lychee, and watermelon, contained in a bottle style inspired by early 20th century Art Nouveau and Art Deco fashions.
We’ve selected three of the most popular vodka cocktails and shown how to make them at home.
The Cosmopolitan, or Cosmo for short, is a delicious sweet and sour cocktail. The exact origin of the contemporary Cosmopolitan is uncertain; however, it seems to have evolved in the 1990s from a comparable 1930s cocktail called the Daisy.
In a cocktail shaker with ice, add 30ml of Emperor Original Vodka and Triple Sec Orange Liqueur. 45ml cranberry juice, 15ml lime juice, and a dash of Orange Bitters Shake well and strain into a chilled coupe-style glass. Garnish with a twist of orange zest.
For an extra kick, use Emperor Watermelon Vodka.
This simple yet tasty drink is a knockout. Gustave Tops, a bartender of The Metropolitan Hotel in Brussels, developed the Black Russian in 1949. Tops designed it for Perle Skirvin Mesta, an American socialite and former US Ambassador to Luxembourg.
It’s simple to make a Black Russian. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice and add 60ml of Emperor Original Vodka and 22.5ml of coffee liqueur. Pour into a rocks glass or tumbler after stirring with a long spoon. Garnish with a maraschino cherry, a lemon slice, and a dash of cola.
To add a mocha flavour to this classic, use Emperor Chocolate Vodka.
A conventional Vodka Martini is often regarded as the ideal cocktail, and it is one of James Bond’s favorite beverages. The original has spawned a plethora of versions, including Espresso and Pornstar Martinis, all of which have proved to be as popular.
Contrary to popular belief, a Vodka Martini may be shaken or stirred; the recipe is the same. In an ice-filled shaker, combine 75ml Emperor Original Vodka and 7.5ml extra dry white vermouth. Then, using a big spoon, swirl or shake for a few seconds, depending on your inclination. Pour into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a green olive or lemon zest, if preferred.

The espresso martini is finally back — and we’re here for it. We liked it in the ’90s, and I still do: it’s essentially a coffee boost accompanied by a drunken embrace.
Bartenders despise creating espresso martinis, which is all the more incentive to create your own at home. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice, add your components (vodka, coffee liqueur, espresso, and simple syrup), mix, drain, and enjoy.
We experimented with various ratios before settling on this one, which allows the coffee flavours to shine. Here’s how to go about it.
- 1 1/2 ounces vodka
- 1 ounce coffee liqueur, such as Kahlua
- 1 ounce espresso or cold brew
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup
- Coffee beans or finely ground coffee for garnish… In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add 1 1/2 ounces vodka, 1 ounce of coffee liqueur, 1 ounce of espresso or cold brew, and 1/2 ounce of simple syrup. Cover the shaker, pressing to seal, and shake vigorously until the metal shaker is very cold to the touch, about 20 seconds. Pour through a strainer into a martini glass and garnish.
What Can You Substitute for Kahlua or Vodka?
Do you dislike vodka? Although unconventional, there are a few alternatives: We’ve seen bourbon, mezcal, and tequila “martinis.” The Kahlua may also be substituted. It’s only one of countless coffee liqueur brands available, so use whatever you have on hand or can locate. If you prefer the combination of chocolate and coffee flavors, add a crème de cacao.
To make this cocktail your own, experiment with different spirits. We made one using Luxardo, tequila, and Kahlua and were really happy with the outcome. You may also flavor your simple syrup with cinnamon, cardamom, or any other spice that works well with coffee.
How Do You Make a Frothy Espresso Martini?
A shot of espresso is the greatest method to make an espresso martini foamy. Although we’ve included cold brew as an option and find it to be a wonderful way to enjoy this drink, it won’t have the same trademark froth.
In What Form Is an Espresso Martini Served?
Use a martini glass or other wide-mouthed drinking vessel to serve your espresso martini. If you’re using a wine glass, pour slowly to minimise splashing.
You may add a decorative touch to the top by dusting coffee grinds onto the surface of the froth or adding a few coffee beans in the middle of the drink.
